Game drives and boat safaris in Murchison Falls National Park offer incredible wildlife encounters. Uganda’s largest and oldest park, spanning 3,893 sq. km, is bisected by the Nile, which fuels diverse ecosystems. Game drives, best during the dry season, take place in the morning (6:30 AM) and evening (4 PM), lasting 3–4 hours. Boat safaris to the Devil’s Cauldron guarantee sightings of elephants, hippos, crocodiles, and abundant birdlife, including the endangered shoebill.
Your adventure begins with an early breakfast before we set off northwest toward Murchison Falls National Park. En route, we’ll stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakitoma (approx. 3.5-hour drive), home to Uganda’s only wild rhinos.
Enjoy an exhilarating rhino tracking experience, as you explore the sanctuary’s swampy terrain where these majestic creatures often cool off during the heat of the day.
After the trek, continue your journey with lunch en route. The scenic drive offers captivating views of Uganda’s diverse landscape, gradually flattening as we approach the northern reaches of the park and the mighty Victoria Nile.
Check in at Paraa Safari Lodge and unwind for the rest of the evening
Begin your day with an early morning game drive in the northern sector of the park, where you may encounter a wealth of wildlife including: Elephants, buffaloes, Rothschild giraffe, Hartebeests, oribis, bushbucks, Bohor reedbucks, and with luck—lions and elusive leopards! Return to the lodge for a relaxed lunch, before heading out at 2:00 PM for an unforgettable boat cruise to the base of Murchison Falls.
Cruise along the tranquil waters of the Nile, spotting hippos, crocodiles, and a rich variety of waterbirds such as kingfishers, herons, pelicans, and the striking bee-eaters. The boat stops a few meters from the thundering “Devil’s Cauldron”, where the Nile dramatically squeezes through a 6-meter gorge before plunging 40 meters below.
Disembark for a guided hike to the top of the falls—a scenic 1.5-hour trek that offers spectacular close-up views of the world’s most powerful waterfall. At the summit, meet your driver for the transfer back to the lodge.
After an early breakfast, embark on a morning boat safari down the Nile—lasting about 4 hours. This serene journey brings you up-close with elephants, buffaloes, hippos, and a range of birdlife. The highlight? A chance to spot the rare Shoebill stork—a bucket-list bird for any enthusiast!
Enjoy a bush breakfast on the riverbank, then check out and start your drive back to Entebbe, including a game drive en route and lunch stop along the way.
